Welcome to Kailani's Wahines web site. We are one of San Diego's traditional Polynesian music and dance revues and we also offer classes for those who are interested in exercise and culture through dance. The floorshow includes the rhythmic sounds of drummers and musicians, graceful island wahines, artful kane slap, haka, fire knife dance specialist, and talented keikis. We perform dances from Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, and New Zealand. The halau (dance group) has performed at Camp Pendleton for military functions.
Kailani started hula dancing in Hawaii in the 1960's with Kaui and Pono. We performed poolside at the Over house on Summer Street. The Pan Am tourists would pull up in buses and sit at long tables in the huts that we lived in. Kailani performed in Waikiki at the Don the Beachcomber hotel for Tihati's Polynesian Revue in the 1970's. I danced for Terii Rua in 1979 and 1980 at the Kona Hawaii Restaurant (Kono's) in Santa Ana , California and was a background singer and dancer for Barry Kim. In the 1980's and 1990's Kailani danced hula ministry for Horizon. Kailani's Wahines has been around since 2001. We perform for luaus, birthday parties, reunions, weddings, anniversaries, retirement homes, communities and corporate events and conventions. Hula, Tahitian, Samoan and Maori dancing are performed in our shows. We also have musicians, live singers, and fire knife dancers. See us on youtube @kailaniswahines
